Resize an image

Change an image's dimensions, keeping the proportions right.

Files never leave your browser

or drag it here

Leave height empty to keep the original proportions.

    How to use it

    1. Choose an image - its current size appears underneath.
    2. Type the width you want. Leave height empty and it is worked out for you so the image is not stretched.
    3. Click Resize and the new file downloads.

Why it runs in your browser

Most file tools upload your document to a server, process it there and send it back. That means a stranger's machine holds your file, however briefly. This tool does the work locally using JavaScript, so nothing is transmitted. You can check: load the page, turn off your internet, and it still works.

    Frequently asked questions

    Will resizing distort my image?

Not if you set only the width or only the height. The other dimension is calculated from the original proportions. Setting both to values that do not match the original ratio will stretch it.

Can I make an image larger?

You can, but enlarging cannot invent detail that was never captured, so the result looks soft. Reducing size always works well.

    Is anything uploaded?

No. The resize happens on a canvas in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
